The short shorts that trended in the 1980s have been announced to come back to tennis. However, American WTA star Madison Keys is not a huge fan of it, as she shares her opinion concerning the return of men’s short shorts to the ATP Tour.

For context, the return of the short to the ATP began to be debated in 2015. Many players opposing the comeback, including Andy Murray, revealed that the short shorts didn’t leave much to the imagination, and he couldn’t see them coming back into fashion.

However, Rafael Nadal wore a type of 1980s short in the 2014 Australian Open, and that caused a stir among tennis fans.

For context, the men’s tennis short has gone through many revolutions in the past five decades. From short shorts in the 1980s, the ATP changed to a three-quarter Capri length short in the late 1990s and 2000s. In 2011, it was made to a 5-7 inch inseam short length, which depends on the height, nearly reaching the knee.

Nevertheless, players like Holger Rune have been seen recently wearing a 4-inch inseam while playing. But with the comeback of short shorts, many players may take to it. That led Tennis Channel to ask Madison Keys about what feels like the 1980s shorts’ return to tennis.

Personally, not a huge fan. Sometimes they are really short, and the boys are cheeking, like, it's just a little bit a lot.

Meanwhile, no ATP player has yet to wear shorts. Perhaps the Madrid Open will witness its first courageous player.
