“A guy that’s never won a championship!” – NBA legend Magic Johnson FIRES BACK at Anthony Edwards’ disrespect of Michael Jordan’s era
NBA legend Magic Johnson slams Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards for claiming Michael Jordan was the only skilled player in his era.
Magic Johnson and Anthony Edwards
Anthony Edwards’ outspoken nature has finally caught up with him after he recently made headlines with his controversial statement about Chicago Bulls and NBA legend Michael Jordan being the only skilled player in his era. In response to the controversy, a fellow legend in the MJ era, Magic Johnson, in a recent interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, gave his say on the matter.
Magic Johnson, in the interview, slammed Edwards for his comments and threw a jab at his lack of silverware. Edwards’ comments were bound to cause a backlash from both legends and fans alike.
I never respond to a guy that’s never won a championship. There’s not nothing to really say. He didn't win a college championship. I don't even know if he won a high school championship.Magic Johnson said on Thursday at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in California
Edwards was a highly-rated player from high school but has never had the opportunity to lift a serious title, as his critics would say. The closest he reached was the unevenly matched Western Conference finals against the Dallas Mavericks last season, which was lost in five games.
However, Johnson’s criticism of Anthony Edwards comes from a place of experience, as he witnessed a part of the MJ era. Ant-Man, on the other hand, would be eager to set the record straight this season and get the one thing that has eluded him, an NBA title.
Isiah Thomas also calls out Anthony Edwards for disrespecting Michael Jordan’s era
Anthony Edwards knew he had stepped on sacred lines, as prior to Magic Johnson’s sharp rebuke, Isiah Thomas also spoke out against his comments. “Zeke” in a post on his social media account on X, outrightly dismissed it and issued a warning to the T-Wolves young guard.
Propaganda works, so be careful what you choose to believe.Isiah Thomas wrote on X
Zeke’s rivalry with MJ and the Bulls is well documented and, as a result, took issues as he saw it as a sign of disrespect to the legends of his era. Not his first reaction though, as he has previously criticized comparisons between Edwards and Jordan, drawing a line between their different playing styles.
Although Thomas and His Airness don’t see eye to eye anymore, it’s clear that he won’t tolerate any form of slander, especially from one who is yet to win something tangible in his career. As the new season approaches, Edwards would be willing to not let this controversy get the better of him as his T-Wolves take on the Lakers for their first game of the season.
