Team India suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat in the hands of Sri Lanka in the 3-match ODI series. This was Sri Lanka’s first-ever bilateral series win against India since 1997. All the senior players including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were back. However, India batted poorly in all the three games during the run chase.

The Indian batters got trapped in the web spun by the crafty Sri Lankan spinners on helpful pitches. After winning the series against India, Maheesh Theekshana made some pointed comments. He said that they knew they could use the conditions at Premadasa Stadium to their advantage because they had good spinners and that their batters are familiar with such conditions from domestic cricket.

They (India) usually play on good wickets and small boundaries in India. We knew playing in Premadasa, if there’s little bit turn, we can take advantage because we have good spinners. Even in domestic, the wickets will be like this and our batters know how to play.
Maheesh Theekshana said at the press conference

Indian batters seemed to have no answers to the spinners as they crumbled like a pack of cards in all the three games.

Team India lost the final game of the series against Sri Lanka by 110 runs

The first game between the two teams ended in a tie. India could not score 1 run from 14 balls. In the second ODI, the Indian batters seemed to have no answers to the Sri Lankan spinners after Sharma’s onslaught gave them a quick start.

In the third T20I, Sri Lanka won the toss yet again and decided to bat first. They scored 248 runs in their 50 overs which were over par based on the type of pitches that were used in the series. Avishka Fernando was the top scorer with 96 runs and Riyan Parag, who made his ODI debut, picked up 3 wickets.

In reply, India could manage to score just 138 runs in 26.1 overs. Sharma with 35 runs, Virat Kohli with 20 runs, Parag with 15 runs and Washington Sundar with 30 runs were the notable scorers. Indian batters have struggled to bat on turning tracks off late and need to improve a lot so that they could chase totals on this type of wickets.
