The third match of the 2024 Money in the Bank PLE was the World Heavyweight Championship clash between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins. Although the main talking point will be the failed cash in by Drew McIntyre, the prior sequence of events has garnered a lot of attention online. Just moments before The Scottish Warrior’s entrance, a major botch took place.
Rollins hit the World Heavyweight Champion with his Falcanero Suplex combo. As he pinned Priest, the latter seemingly forgot to kick out. Therefore, this prompted the referee to improvise, as he stopped before counting to three. Seconds later, McIntyre came out to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and turn the bout into a triple threat.
However, the botch by Priest seemingly overshadowed the enthralling finish. Last month at Clash at the Castle, The Judgment Day member suffered a similar horrendous botch. In the main event of the previous PLE, he caught himself in between the ropes while attempting a high-risk maneuver. Nevertheless, The Archer of Infamy walked out with his championship intact on both occasions.
Interestingly, Damian Priest needed assistance from CM Punk twice. The Second City Saint returned to screw his rival again at Money in the Bank. As such, this resulted in a failed cash in for McIntyre. Meanwhile, Rollins won’t be able to challenge Priest for the title until he loses it.
WWE Universe reacts to horrendous botch by Damian Priest at Money in the Bank
Needless to say, wrestling fans on social media were confused by the botch. Some users online blamed Damian Priest for the botch, pointing out the aforementioned spot at Clash at the Castle. Meanwhile, others accused the production team of missing the cue to hit Drew McIntyre‘s theme music. A few fans speculated that Priest might’ve been legitimately knocked out during the pinfall.

Another section of the WWE Universe expressed disappointment in seeing Seth Rollins get screwed. All in all, it turned out to be an enthralling experience, as this furthered the build for SummerSlam. CM Punk will most likely face The Scottish Warrior at the next PLE. On the other hand, Priest will defend his title against the King of the Ring, Gunther.
