Just moments before this week’s Raw got underway, John Cena posted something on X that gave the fans a ray of hope that the best of his retirement tour is yet to come. He simply wrote, “#CenavsStyles Thoughts?” also tagging WWE Raw in the process. It has already gotten over 46,000 likes at the time of writing this piece.

Cory Hays of BodySlam is reporting that Cena vs. Styles is still on the table, with the Peacemaker actor now down to the last five dates in his farewell tour. The 17-time world champion is advertised for next month’s Crown Jewel PLE in Perth. One could expect him to issue an open challenge for his last WWE appearance in the land down under.

And who knows if Styles ends up answering it? The majority of fans were expecting this showdown to take center stage in the French capital on August 31 at Clash in Paris. Instead, what they got was Logan Paul wrestling the ‘Babe Ruth of WWE’ in front of arguably the loudest crowd in all of pro wrestling.

But to Paul’s credit, he didn’t leave any stone unturned on his part. At one point, Cena clocked ‘The Maverick’ with a Styles Clash to pay homage to his great rival. During the Clash in Paris post-show, the 48-year-old Hollywood mogul alluded to the fact that he might not be able to share the ring with ‘The Phenomenal One’ with so little time left on his retirement tour.

To set the record straight, Styles was indeed in Paris for that weekend but didn’t make the cut for the PLE. In fact, he took on Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship 24 hours later on Raw, which was staged at the same arena. ‘The Phenomenal One’ failed to win the title in a heavily criticized booking decision.

Who could John Cena possibly face at Crown Jewel next month?

As briefly mentioned above, the next stop on the John Cena farewell tour is Crown Jewel. It’s slated to go down at the RAC Arena in Perth on October 11. ‘The Franchise Player’ has been featured at the forefront of the overseas PLE, which almost confirms that he would compete too. But with Cena scheduled for no appearances in the meantime, it’s hard to predict who he could end up opposing.

He’s coming off an embarrassing loss at the hands of Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza. While a rematch between the two might seem plausible, Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that Cena and Lesnar have already had their last match.

That leaves the fans with more questions than there already were. If Cena comes out at Crown Jewel demanding someone to step up and pick a fight with him, there are some exciting prospects for that role.

First and foremost, AJ Styles may answer that call based on the aforementioned report that he’s likely to face Cena in his remaining time as an active wrestler. The fans are upset with the way WWE has handled Cena since the onset of his retirement tour. There were some shades of brilliance, albeit few and far between, with everything else not living up to its billing.

While a solitary match with Styles wouldn’t undo all those wrongs, at least the fans would have something positive to draw from an otherwise underwhelming run. If not Styles, WWE could make a local favorite step up against the ‘Last Real Champion’. And that’s where names like Grayson Waller and Bronson Reed enter the picture.

Waller had issued a warning to prematurely retire Cena in Perth if the latter was willing to throw it down with him. Reed, on the other hand, is currently a part of ‘The Vision‘ and seemingly on WWE’s priority list. A showdown with Cena would mean the world to his career.
