Vikings fans cheered the return of JJ McCarthy earlier this week when the team defeated the Houston Texans. However, a section of the Skol is unhappy because the club introduced a male cheerleader.

Female cheerleaders have been around for a long time, at both the college and professional levels. They play a key part in fan engagement and various other activities.

It’s not as easy a job as it may appear. Participants undergo several rounds of evaluation and a year-round grooming process to have a chance to represent their teams.

According to the sources in The Vikings, they added a new face, a male cheerleader named Blaize. Vikings have always promoted inclusivity, and it’s a step in the right direction.

A section of the fans has a different opinion. They are not keen on seeing a male cheerleader on game days. ML Football revealed that fans have threatened to cancel their season tickets if the team employs a male cheerleader.

Vikings cheerleader turns heads during preseason

As of today, 37 cheerleaders represent the Vikings. Annie Keiper, a second-year member of the Vikings cheerleading squad, is garnering attention on social media.

Kiper has more than 6000 followers on her Instagram profile.

Year 2! An absolute honor. I can’t wait to be back dancing for this incredible organization- alongside the best teammates, staff, friends, and overall people. I am so grateful to represent this program for my second season. SKOL VIKES!!!!!

Keiper was present in Canton to witness Vikings great Jared Allen’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Kevin O’Connell gave his honest opinion on JJ McCarthy’s preseason outing

All eyes were on McCarthy’s return to the Vikings quarterback job during their preseason opener against the Texans. He played just one drive but threw multiple third-down completions.

Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd had doubts about the 22-year-old’s abilities. Cowherd accused the Vikings of shielding him from any negativity.

Despite his accuracy issues, McCarthy completed four passes from 7 for 30 yards before O’Connell replaced him with Sam Howell and later Brett Rypien.

There’s just a level of composure and poise to how he ran the show that was exactly what I was looking for, and now we go back to work. It’s obviously a checkpoint for our whole team. But [for] JJ—we got our first chance since last year [to have the] headset.

After lifting the CFP title in 2023, the Vikings selected McCarthy in the first round. O’Connell also signed Sam Darnold to battle the rookie for the starting quarterback job.

Darnold won the battle due to an impressive camp and preseason performance. Moreover, McCarthy hurt his shoulder and had to undergo surgery. He missed the entire first year.

The Vikings still have two more preseason games remaining on their schedule. First, they will host the New England Patriots and end their preseason with a trip to Music City to play the Tennessee Titans.
