Malik Beasley was about to more than triple his salary after having a sort of career resurgence with the Detroit Pistons last season. As a free agent, he signed with them on a one-year, $6 million contract before the 2024-25 season.

He was about to earn a three-year, $42 million contract after proving that he could be a reliable option off the bench. Keeping him would have been a step in the right direction for the Pistons, as they look to take the next step in their surge as a playoff contender.

The franchise rescinded the offer the moment they were informed about an FBI investigation into Beasley’s alleged involvement in aiding bettors. That investigation is still ongoing, which means he is not cleared or charged with any wrongdoing.

Beasley, however, now finds himself without a place to stay. According to the Detroit News, the 28-year-old was evicted from his apartment at The Stott, a historic high-rise in downtown Detroit.

The Florida State alum was sued twice by the landlord this year. He had failed to pay a combined $21,500 in rent. After he ignored the second lawsuit, a default judgment was filed against him on Wednesday.

According to the publication, this is not the first time Malik Beasley has found himself facing money problems. In recent years, he failed to pay a celebrity barber, a lender, a marketing firm, and a dentist. The dentist ended up garnishing the guard’s paychecks from the Pistons.

Fans lose their minds hearing about Malik Beasley’s eviction

Basketball fans have heard several horror stories about athletes earning millions, only to end up losing it all. In Malik Beasley’s situation, fans have been left bewildered knowing a player who has earned almost $60 million in his career could not pay $21.5K in rent.

They also could not understand how he ignored the lawsuits and now finds himself without a place to stay. Many players are inept at managing their money, but getting evicted is one that signals the player might be broke. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Fans believe the shooting guard is making a mockery of himself. First, the FBI investigation. On top of that, he is without a job, and now finds himself without a place to stay is probably a difficult situation to be in.

Malik Beasley hits back at critics

I feel like people turn their backs on me. Low-key, people were saying some crazy things in the media. People judging me. Have I made mistakes in my life? Yes. Am I proud of those mistakes? No, I’m human. One thing, I got a chip on my shoulder. I’m ready to destroy everything in front of me.

Beasley is talking about unnamed individuals who have been judging him and have been starting narratives about him on social media.

The guard claimed he is still working out and, in time, will prove everyone wrong. At the same time, he also admitted to making mistakes in his life. It is not clear what he meant by that.

He could be referring to the problems with his debtors. His lawyer will be happy if those words do not indicate a potential link to the betting investigation.

His entire career is at a standstill due to that. It is unlikely that anyone will offer him a contract unless the investigation clears him of any wrongdoing. Teams do not want that on their reputation.
