Malik Beasley has endured quite a bit of embarrassment over the past few months. A divorce, then being named in a federal investigation into players aiding bettors, and being without an NBA contract.

The betting investigations started when former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter was found to have aided bettors through inside information and his actions on the court.

After Beasley was named as part of the investigations, fans and investigative podcasts found some questionable plays that proved he was doing things out of context while on the court.

The shooting guard maintained that he had nothing to do with those incidents, even though prop bets placed on his name were found to be suspicious enough to warrant a thorough investigation.

All this while, his former team, the Detroit Pistons, did not offer him a new contract, knowing any indictment would leave them without a player.

Finally, after a month and a half, the 28-year-old has been cleared of any wrongdoing and has been dropped from the investigation. This news could lead to an array of free agency options.

Knicks are among teams that had done background work on Malik Beasley’s situation, how likely/unlikely a suspension in 2025-26 was for the free agent. ESPN reports that Beasley is no longer a target of federal gambling investigation. NYK currently has vet min to offer free agents.

The Stein Line and Bleacher Report’s Jake L. Fischer doubled down on these rumors as the New York Knicks had a first-hand experience of Malik Beasley‘s capabilities during their 1st-round playoff clash.

Gilbert Arenas wants Malik Beasley to remind critics his worth

Other than the rumored interest from the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons, Malik Beasley has a plethora of opportunities. Gilbert Arenas wants the sharpshooter to use this as a chance to get back at those who trolled him.

You cleared your name. They need to say sorry. You wasn’t out there throwing games, you were just doing what we do in an 82-game season. Now you gotta make them pay.

The former Washington Wizards star then went on to suggest that Beasley should go over to Los Angeles. Since he is a Lakers fan, Arenas believes Beasley can help with their shooting needs.

It is not clear if the Lakers can afford the Florida State alum, as he should get offers of 3-year, $42 million deals. He bet on himself last season by signing a 1-year, $6 million deal.

After outperforming that deal, he was in line to get a major payday. This investigation complicated matters, and he was left with financial struggles along with the loss of face.

Investigations compounded Malik Beasley’s financial mess

Before Malik Beasley was named as being part of this federal investigation, he was already struggling financially. Reports of him not paying his barber and other people surfaced.

Then there was the situation with his wife, Montana Yao, who filed for divorce in March. All of this supposedly strained his finances. These financial struggles were just coming to light when he was named in the investigation.

A few weeks ago, failure to pay rent saw him getting kicked out of his apartment. The 6′ 4″ continued to work out and kept reiterating that he will get the chance to reply to those who criticized and trolled him.

Hopefully for Malik Beasley, a new contract will help ease his financial woes. If he gets the $14 a year he is seeking, it would be more than double what he earned last season. Quite a return on the bet he placed on himself.
