Malik Monk goes wild as Charlotte Hornets comeback to win in OT over Miami Heat

Is what was supposed to be a LaMelo Ball headline, making his first NBA start. Yet, Malik Monk comes from the bench to score his career-best 36 points for the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets made a 10-point comeback in the games’ last 2:47 minutes remaining to play. Monk’s 36 was the highest by a Hornets’ reserve as Devonte Graham scored 35 previously against Indiana Pacers in November 2019.
Talking about Defending Eastern Conference Champions, Miami Heat, they were led by their leader Jimmy Butler with 25 points. Bam Adebayo registered 23 points against his name. Duncan Robinson scored 16 points. Whereas Tyler Herro and The Heat used a 24-7 run to turn a seven-point deficit into a 10-point lead late in the fourth, then gave up 28 points in the final 7:47.

Monk sent the Hornets to OT by making a 3-pointer with 16.6 seconds left, and Charlotte never trailed in the extra period. Cody Zeller had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Gordon Hayward scored 19 and LaMelo Ball finished with 14 points and seven assists for Charlotte in his first start.
“At the end of the day, if you have a double-digit lead you have to find a way to get stops and finish it off,” Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We weren’t able to do that.”
The Hornets made 21 3-pointers, tying the third-most in franchise history. They also set a season-high for points and topped the 30-assist mark for the ninth time this season.
Jimmy Butler was dejected after this loss for the Heat against the Hornets as this has made them fall to #13 in the Eastern Conference.
