When the New York Giants selected Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick, their goal was to make him the focus of their offense this season. So far, he has done that, and he continued to do so against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. But all that came to a standstill when the rookie went down after grabbing a catch.
The aforementioned incident took place with the New York Giants trailing the Cowboys 15-20. They needed a touchdown to secure a victory and started the drive in that pursuit. But soon found themselves in a 4th and 6 situation snapping from their own 45-yard line.
QB Daniel Jones took the ball and looked for anyone to be open. He scrambled towards his left and threw a pass to his rookie WR. Nabers caught the ball next to the sideline as Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs bumped him out of bounds.
In that bump, Diggs landed on top of the rookie WR. But more crucially, as seen in the replay clips, Malik Nabers‘ head hits the ground hard face first.

It also seems like his shoulder and wrist also got crushed in the process. The former LSU star slowly rolled on to his back and lay there as teammates and staff surrounded him.
After waiting for some time, he was helped up on to his feet and taken to the medical room. He suffered a concussion and was ruled out for the rest of the game. It ended a brilliant night where he amassed 115 yards against one of the best corners in the game.
Will Malik Nabers play next week?
Nabers might be ruled out of the game due to a concussion, but it is not clear yet if he entered the NFL’s concussion protocol. If he does show the league signs that he is not ready to play, the NFL might enforce the rule. That will instantly rule Nabers out for at least one game.
That means he will miss the trip to Seattle next week. The league, along with the New York Giants medical staff, will monitor his progress over the course of the week. Only when both sides agree unanimously that he is not suffering from the effects, will he be cleared to play.
Malik Nabers is accounting for almost half the targets Daniel Jones is attempting so far, which makes him the de facto focus of this offense. They have an offensive line good enough to hold pass rushers away. But Jones will need his rookie to play. Else, the Giants might struggle in the games he misses.
