The New York Giants’ retro throwback jersey on the eve of their 100 years of existence drew mixed reactions. And it seems some of their own players are a bit iffy about the decision, including rookie drip god Malik Nabers.

During an event sponsored by Fanatics, Nabers answered a few questions about his life in the Big Apple. And of course, the new Red Giants jersey had to come up at some point.

Judging by his facial expressions, he was hoping to avoid answering. In the end, he chose a diplomatic answer.

It's gonna be hard to swag it out. That's all I have to say about it.

He was clueless about how to make it look appealing on television.

I don’t know; I don’t. I am gonna see when I put it on.

Social media fear Malik Nabers hates being part of the New York Giants

Well, if anyone can help raise the sale of the jerseys, it’s the LSU graduate. Perhaps he could have the Tommy DeVito effect

The 20-year-old has yet to try the throwback jerseys and perhaps doesn’t want to.

He already tried out the traditional blue shirts and white shorts of the Giants at the rookie photo session. The new No. 9 even caught a few balls.

SI names Malik Nabers as one of the five potential draft busts in 2024

It’s unfair to call any rookie a bust when they haven’t even taken a professional snap. However, Sports Illustrated draft analyst Kristen Nelson included Nabers as one of the five that could have a hard time adjusting in the NFL.

Nelson agreed that the Giants made the right decision by taking Nabers. It’s hard to teach someone the Tyreek Hill-esuqe explosiveness that he possesses. Yet he also noted a few drawbacks that may come back to bite him.

There are a few risks with adding Nabers. He lacks size at 6'0" and 200 pounds, which could be a factor if teams prevent him from utilizing his blazing speed.
Kristen Nelson wrote

The Giants last WR, Odell Beckham Jr., stood around 5 feet 11 and weighed 200 pounds. That did not stop OBJ from recording 1,000 yards four times in five seasons with the New York franchise.

The man Nelson compared Nabers to Tyreek Hill, is even shorter at 5 feet 10 and 191 pounds. Yet he is considered the best receiver in the league, having put up almost 1800 yards in 2023 for the Miami Dolphins.

However, that was possible because OBJ had Eli Manning and Hill had Tua Tagovailoa, proven passers, unlike the current Giants No. 1 Daniel Jones. On top of that, the Duke graduate is coming off a horrible Achilles tear that ended his last campaign.

Despite adding Drew Lock in free agency, head coach Brian Daboll announced that he will be the starter if Jones’ rehab goes smoothly. Daboll doesn’t have much of a choice because they are paying Jones handsome money.

If Jones somehow connects well with Malik Nabers, then maybe the Giants can turn things around. They also have Darius Slayton looking to prove himself, along with Wan’Dale Robinson, who showed a glimpse of his skillset near the end of the season.
