Malik Nabers has witnessed a lot of change this season with his New York Giants, but one thing remains, and that is their penchant for losing, even when they have a good game.
That habit of losing when either being close to overcoming a deficit or being in the lead is one of the reasons head coach Brian Daboll saw the word ‘former’ affixed to his salutation.
With a new era under Mike Kafka, starting his tenure as the interim head coach, the hope was that most of the negativity and toxicity under Daboll would be gone.
That alone is sometimes enough to motivate players to do better and win football games. Malik Nabers was probably hoping for the same when he was watching his teammates go to battle against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
Sometimes I think they b making us lose on purpose! Cause it’s no way, bro you throw the ball instead of runnin’ it to make ‘em burn two timeouts?? Then you [don’t] kick the field goal??? Then they have to go down and score!!! Football common sense!!! Am I missing something?

With his rant, the injured wideout was essentially questioning the integrity of the league, as he felt the Giants were intentionally losing games to complete a narrative.

Sensing this would lead to unwanted controversy, the former LSU star quickly deleted the tweet. However, by then, his words had spread throughout the football world, raising questions of their own about what he saw from his own team.
Malik Nabers’ rant made sense, as Giants could have famously won against Lions
Nabers did not write that tweet without logic. The New York Giants were sitting with a 3-point lead as Jameis Winston and the offense managed to burn nearly 6 and a half minutes off the clock.
With a little more than 3 minutes remaining, and with the ball on the Lions’ 4-yard line, the Giants first executed a run play, from which Tyron Tracy managed to gain 2 yards.
The Lions instantly called a timeout, believing they needed their defense to reset. That came in handy on the next play when they forced Winston into an incompletion.
On the next play, the Giants again ran the ball, this time with Devin Singletary losing 4 yards. The away team had one more opportunity, but instead of going the safe route and kicking a field goal, head coach Mike Kafka asked his offense to go for it.
The Lions used their second timeout to ensure that even if the Giants executed, they would have nearly 3 minutes to attempt to score. That tactic worked for them, as Winston again could not connect.

Still sitting with just 3 points to recover, the Lions drove down the field and kicked a field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime. Malik Nabers believes that kicking a field goal would have given his team a better chance at winning this game.
Giants 1st team to be eliminated from playoff contention
Once the game went into overtime, the Detroit Lions handed the ball to running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who gobbled up 69 yards to give his team the lead. Then it was the Giants’ turn.

Jameis Winston and the offense took some time to get into the Lions’ half. Then, the home team, buoyed by their fans, managed to stop the Giants from converting on a 4th down.
By losing this game, the Big Apple-based franchise wound up with the worst record in the NFC. Even though there are teams with similar or worse records, the Giants became the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention.

Malik Nabers might be kicking himself for not being able to be there for his team. But more importantly, he believes the Giants need something else to stop making mistakes and start winning football games.
