When Commissioner Roger Goodell announced who the New York Giants drafted with their 6th overall pick, fans were not convinced. Fast forward a few months and it seems QB Daniel Jones and that 6th overall pick WR Malik Nabers are developing a chemistry. The most notable part of that duo is the play of the rookie wideout. Something that impressed the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett pulled Giants OT Andrew Thomas to the ground and ploughed into Daniel Jones. But the quarterback had already sent the ball flying through the air. Garrett turned around to watch a brilliant catch unfold.

Malik! You’re a bad boy. Keep doing your thing.

After the play, Myles Garrett went up to the player and said.

That was his way of appreciating the rookie wideout for his incredible toe drag that confirmed the touchdown. Myles Garrett saying that is a lot as he has seen his fair share of elite receivers in this league.

Malik Nabers did not rack up as many yards as he did in the 2nd game of his career. But the way he caught those passes from Jones was what stood out. It was his use of his elite separation skills as well as incredible adjustments in the air to come down with those catches.

It seems he has figured out that his quarterback is still a bit rusty and needs some more time to improve his accuracy. Until then, he will use those skills to ensure he ends up with the ball. Garrett knows it is not an easy thing to do. Which is why he has nothing but praise.

Malik Nabers claims to be a mix of the Top 3 WRs in the league

At the Fanatics Fest held in August in New York, reporter Cade Buffalow asked the New York Giants rookie how he would compare to current NFL receivers.

I’m a mixture/ I would probably say Ja’Marr, Jets, and CeeDee.

Malik Nabers replied

That is a tall claim for a rookie who at the time, hadn’t even played in the league. He just suggested himself to be a mixture of three of the best WRs in the NFL.

To his credit, he is just two yards shy of Justin Jefferson and is tied with him in TDs scored. He clears JaMarr Chase and CeeDee Lamb so far in both categories. Those performances from him, that too when receiving passes from Jones, is a testament of the growing trust in him to be one of the best receivers in the league.

So far, he also clears No. 1 ranked receiver and the top prospect in this year’s Draft class, Marvin Harrison Jr. One has to take note that he has those Top 5 numbers despite not catching any pass beyond 28 yards. Who knows what could have been if Daniel Jones had a cannon of an arm.
