Manchester City have agreed to a mind-boggling deal for their star Argentine forward, Julian Alvarez with Atletico Madrid which will be fetching them a whopping €95 million, a record sale for the Premier League champions. The initial payment will be of €75 million which will be premised on numerous clauses while the Spanish outfit will be working to meet the personal terms with the Argentine striker.
The World-Cup winning sensation went onto score 19 goals for the Cityzens from the 54 appearances that he has had. Sadly, it wasn’t enough for him to topple the Norwegian talisman, Erling Haaland from the perch and was always seen as a specialist when City didn’t avail the services of the latter.
With the signing of Julian Alvarez, Atletico Madrid may have a handful of busy days going forward as they have agreed another deal for Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher. Alvarez will be the second striker to be added to the Atletico side this season after Villarreal’s Alexander Sorloth became the first. Apart from these signings, Real Sociedad’s Robin le Normand has also made his way to the club, making it a very hustling transfer window.
With Alvarez being sold for €95 million, Manchester City is en route to making a massive profit as they brought the Argentine marksman for a just 14 million euros from River Plate in 2022. His sale to Atletico Madrid leapfrogged the previous record of €55 million that City procured for the transfer of Ferran Torres to Barcelona.
A glance at the meteoric rise of Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez has turned into a relentless scoring machine off late. He was a part of the Argentine squad that went onto win the Copa America for the 16th time. He was also a part of the Argentina squad for Olympics that got eliminated in the quarter-finals after a defeat to France.
Nicknamed ‘La Arana’ or the Spider, Alvarez has a unique celebration that replicates the shooting style of webs like Spiderman in the Marvel comics. Ever since his transfer to Manchester City, he has won all the major tournaments of the world featuring the likes of Premier League, Copa America, Champions League and the 2022 World Cup.
