Manchester City, in a brilliant display of sheer dominance, defeated Manchester United to win the FA Community Shield. The Cityzens registered a win on penalties after the match ended 1-1 at full-time, at the Wembley Stadium in London.
The reigning Premier League champions came off their FA Cup final defeat to their city rivals, to clinch the FA Community Shield title. This victory marks Manchester City‘s seventh Shield win—their last coming in 2019. It also represents redemption for the club after three consecutive Community Shield final losses. The club shared their triumph on social media, prompting various reactions from fans.
Man City came from behind to draw 1-1 against the 21-time winners, Man United, before winning 7-6 on penalties. Alejandro Garnacho had broken the deadlock in the 82nd minute, but the score was equalized just seven minutes later by Bernardo Silva. Although United shot-stopper Andre Onana saved Silva’s penalty in the shootout, City emerged victorious as Jonny Evans and Jadon Sancho missed their respective penalties.
