Manchester City extend winning streak to 18 games with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal
Manchester City moved 10 points clear of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal. Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the match in the 2nd minute to extend their record breaking winning run.
Pep Guardiola said he is surprised with his side’s stellar form while other Premier League teams are dropping points. They are now 10 points clear of United in the league table.
Pep Guardiola believes City’s record will be broken in the future
Sterling’s close-range header from Riyad Mahrez’s cross caught Arsenal cold in the opening minutes and was enough for City. The visitors dominated possession creating numerous chances but were unable to kill off Arsenal.
Pep Guardiola’s side’s 13th successive league victory lifted them to 59 points from 25 games. Arsenal’s third defeat in four games left them in 10th spot.
“The record will be broken one day, we will lose games,” Guardiola said after the win against Arsenal.
“I’m surprised and impressed and everyone is suffering in this world, all the teams in the league are dropping points. We were consistent over the past two months.
“We cannot forget that we won at Anfield, against Tottenham, at Goodison Park and here: incredibly tough games in this period. That’s why I’m more than pleased to win just 1-0.
“People talk and talk about the record and the victories but to do this you have to win these types of games many, many times.”
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will now have to shift their focus onto the Champions League fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach. European success has eluded Guardiola at City and he will hope this is the year where they finally win the UCL for the first time.
