Manchester City went up against Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Cityzens came into the game on the back of a disastrous run and desperately in need of all three points.

Despite the players’ best efforts, Juventus claimed a 2-0 victory, putting City on the verge of elimination. The loss means that Pep Guardiola and his players need a miracle in the remaining games if they are to book a spot in the top eight.

As City ended the night on the wrong side of the scoreline, an announcement inside the stadium during the game went viral. Several City fans attempted to leave the stadium while their side was down, only to be told that they would have to stay inside till further announcement.

Rival fans on social media laughed at the incident as City drew blanks in Italy. The two former Barcelona players—Thiago Motta and Pep Guardiola—went head to head, only for the Italian to come out on top.

The win places Juventus in 14th position with 11 points from 6 games. Only two points separate the Italian giant from the top 8. City, on the other hand, are just one point and 3 spots above the elimination zone.

Pep Guardiola reacts to frustrating defeat as losing streak continues

Erling Haaland, Ilkay Gundogan, and several other Manchester City stars saw their shots saved and deflected by Michele Di Gregorio in the first half. With the two sides failing to find the net in the first 45 minutes, it set the stage for a fiery second half.

It didn’t take long for Dusan Vlahovic to open the scoring from a header as he found the target from a Kenan Yildiz cross. Weston McKennie then put the game out of reach for the visitors via a spectacular volley.

The Englishman’s acrobatic attempt ensured the win for Motta’s side. Following the game, City boss Pep Guardiola faced the press as he shared his thoughts on yet another defeat. The Spaniard is currently going through his worst run of form as a manager.

We played good. The performance is there. We didn’t lose many balls that had happened in the past.

Pep Guardiola told the press

City is now in 22nd spot in the competition, behind Celtic and Real Madrid. Even though automatic qualification seems like a distant dream, a playoff spot will be the best-case scenario for the reigning Premier League champions.
