Joao Cancelo‘s future at Manchester City received a significant boost when Pep Guardiola seemed to approve of the Portuguese’s continual at the club. In a recent interaction with the press, Guardiola appeared to hint at Cancelo making a return to the starting line-up.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Cancelo’s future is now a huge question mark, with reports linking him to the Saudi Pro League. As per reports, 30-year-old Cancelo has received an offer from reigning SPL champions Al-Hilal.
The club are willing to pay €40 million to acquire the services of the full-back who was contractually bound to City till the summer of 2027. Cancelo’s deal with Al-Hilal will see him earn €70 million in the next three years. The offer is a massive upgrade from his previous salary of €14 million per year at Manchester City.
Fans are divided in their opinion of the move with many for and against the transfer. A fan commented that Joao Cancelo has at least 3 more years left in him to perform at the highest level before even thinking of a move to Saudi. Others argued that it was only natural for a player to consider the hefty pay cheque and leave Europe at such a ‘young’ age.
Manchester City ‘moments away’ from finalizing Ilkay Gundogan return
Manchester City are extremely close to finalizing the return of former captain Ilkay Gundogan to the club. The midfielder is set for an emphatic return after being ‘sacrificed’ to accommodate new players. To make things more interesting, the German was also spotted in Manchester last night as he posed for pictures with fans.
The 33-year-old also waived off the remainder of his salary at the club before Barcelona let him leave for free. The midfielder still had two more years left on his contract with the Blaugrana. The player is set to have his medical with the club sometime on Tuesday as per reports. He will sign with City on a one-year deal with an option to extend a year further.
As things stand, City are off to a good start in the Premier League, as they danced their way past Enzo Maresca‘s Chelsea. The Cityzens play their next game against Ipswich Town on the 24th of August. City will come up against Kalvin Phillips, who joined the club on a season-long loan deal for game time. City are also on the lookout for Japanese star Kyogo Furuhashi.
