Manchester City have been in the news for their alleged 115 charges and the imminent trial set to take place for the same. The Cityzens have made a strong effort to make their innocence clear, with the legal battle set to conclude in the coming days. However, as per reports, the proposed points decision or even relegation to the Championship ‘isn’t enough’ as per several clubs in the English top flight.

It is understood that if found guilty, City are set to be hit with strong sanctions, which may significantly hamper their chances of winning Premier League titles in the near future. As things stand, City have readied a legal team for the trial and will look to come out unscathed after the process. City’s rivals and other teams in the Premier League believe that relegation to a lower League will be futile as City will most certainly win promotion the following season.

Additionally, a single point deduction will also be ineffective over a longer period of time. The general consensus is that multiple point deductions over several seasons will be the way to go as it will ensure that City ‘pay’ for the breaches and charges levied against them.

Fans argued that the rules should not only apply to clubs like Everton and Sheffield United but also top clubs like City and Chelsea.

Manchester City star drops retirement bombshell ahead of new Champions League campaign

While UEFA argues that the system will enable more competition and coverage, it is given that players will have to play a significantly higher number of games. Man City defender Manuel Akanji is one of their go-to players when it comes to securing the backline. Pep Guardiola often relies on the Swiss defender and his recent admission has put fans of the club in a mix.

It's so tough. When do we have breaks? There are no breaks in winter. I don't know how it works out. Maybe I'll retrie at 30.

City play their first game of the campaign against familiar opponents Inter Milan, who they beat in the final two seasons ago. City are also top of the Premier League table.
