Graeme Bailey on TBR Football has reported that the reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid want a right-back very urgently. As such, they have kept tabs on the transfer market for a perfect profile. They have recently turned their attention to Manchester City’s full-back Kyle Walker and want to sign him in the ongoing winter transfer window. Los Blancos wants the Englishman on a six-month loan move.

Walker has been one of the best full-backs in the last few years. He is originally a right-back but is versatile enough to also play his trade as a left-back. Walker joined Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2017. Since then, the English defender has been a regular feature in the playing XI.

The Englishman’s importance has grown in every season, and he has grown in stature in the last seven and a half years with Manchester City. Walker has scored six goals and provided 23 assists in his tenure with City so far. He has also become the captain of the team since Ilkay Gundogan moved to Barcelona before coming back to the club for his second spell.

However, Walker’s stay at City is set to end this winter, as the player has officially asked the club to let him leave in January. He wants to move to a different league and get fresh competition. In such a scenario, many European clubs have been interested in this high-profile full-back.

Why does Real Madrid want Manchester City star Kyle Walker?

Real Madrid desperately needs a right-back as the injury to their club captain, Dani Carvajal, has greatly derailed the team. Playing Lucas Vasquez as right-back has not worked for the Spanish giants, as they recently suffered a 5-2 loss against Barcelona in the Supercup de Espana. Hence, Florentino Perez wants Walker as a short-term solution to their problem.

However, Real Madrid needs to also find a long-term replacement for Carvajal. Hence, they have planned Walker as a player to bring on loan till the end of the 2024/25 season, and they can then sign Trent Alexander-Arnold for free in the summer transfer window.

City will also need to find options to replace Walker. It will not be easy for them to replace him, given Walker was an integral part of their squad for such a long time. Nicolo Savona is one of the options that City will look to get as his replacement. So, it finally remains to be seen if Walker does leave the club and move to Madrid.
