Manchester United may have picked up a win in their first game in the Premier League against Fulham. However, a significant chunk of the headlines were taken by Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho, who missed a sitter in the second half to put his side 2-0 up in the dying minutes. Equipped with the easy task of guiding the ball into an empty net, Garnacho completely missed the target and put the ball wide.

United struggled to take the lead against a resolute Fulham side and needed new signing Joshua Zirkzee to grab his first-ever goal for the club on his debut. Even though it was Garnacho that set up Zirkzee for the late goal in the 87th minute, many found it difficult to believe that the Copa America champion would miss such an easy chance to open his account.

The youngster was visibly distressed at full-time, disappointed at how he did not continue his scoring streak after the Community Shield game against City. Even though every other team has yet to play, United are currently at the at the top of the table.

The Red Devils finished at an embarrassing 8th position last season and will be looking to do better in the 2024/25 campaign.

Even though a lot of criticism was aimed at the 20-year-old, a few fans pointed out that the pass that led to the miss caused the error. The blame was then shifted to Marcus Rashford, who played the pass a tad bit backwards than what was optimal. Being the No. 17’s idol, Cristiano Ronaldo was also made fun of for ‘inspiring’ the miss. A supporter shared a clip of the No. 7 missing an open goal from a similar position while at Al-Nassr.

Erik ten Hag and co. will be delighted with the result and will be looking forward to regrouping and giving it their all in the upcoming game against Brighton. The Dutchman has brought in several of his old players while at Ajax, as fans look forward to how the new acquisitions will perform in the Premier League. From Matthijs de Ligt to Noussair Mazraoui and Zirkzee, fans have every reason to be excited.
