If the season hasn’t already been a woeful one for Manchester United, to add to it, they might just lose out on Lisandro Martinez too. Martinez, who has been a pivotal force in the heart of Manchester United’s defence, was stretchered out of the game against Crystal Palace. Reports have emerged that he might have suffered an ACL tear, which can rule him out for the remainder of the season.
As reported by TyC Sports, Lisandro Martinez was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee. It further stated that this injury might compel Martinez to be out for the remainder of the season. With the prognosis stating a staggering eight months for Martinez to return, Manchester United will have to reshape their defence.
It was in the 76th minute of the game when Martinez twisted his knee the wrong way. He was in a duel with Ismaila Sarr and in the following seconds, went down in no time. Despite the best of efforts from the medical team, Martinez had to be substituted, and Matthijs de Ligt came on in his place.

This is not the first time ever that the defender has gotten injured while plying his trade for Manchester United. Prior to this, he was out for a month with a calf strain in April. Furthermore, he had another knee injury, which sidelined him for 55 days in February.
Manchester United hasn’t been in the best of shape in the ongoing Premier League. Currently stationed in the 13th position with a tally of 29 points from 24 matches, United has been at the receiving end of some woeful performances in the league. With two wins from the last five matches and defeats against Crystal Palace and Brighton, their new boss, Ruben Amorim, is currently facing an uphill battle.
Gary Neville not happy with Ruben Amorim’s current form
As the downward spiral intensifies for Manchester United, the stranglehold around Ruben Amorim’s neck has also tightened. Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has voiced his opinion on the Portuguese boss. Talking on his podcast, Neville made it very clear that Amorim’s arrival to the club has made it worse instead of dragging them out of the quagmire.

I thought it would get better when Ruben Amorim came in. ‘I thought the enthusiasm and the new system, I thought they’d buy into it the players, and we’d see a bounce. We’ve seen the absolute opposite. It’s got a lot worse and that’s surprising.

That wasn’t the last, however, of what Neville had to say. He pointed out that the signs for the future are even more ominous. He made it clear that unless Amorim can bounce back, the players will start questioning the set-up and the belief. Neville concluded on a note that if the string of losses continues, not only will this season be damaged, but the start of the following season might see a similar lack of zeal from the Red Devils.
