Manchester United haven’t had the best of pre-seasons under Erik ten Hag this year. The Red Devils have only won two of their five games ahead of the new campaign, with their most recent defeat going viral on social media. United took on Arne Slot‘s Liverpool at Williams-Brice Stadium in the United States as Liverpool won 3-0.
The score line summed up United’s current state, with the build-up to Fabio Carvalho‘s goal putting social media into a meltdown. The 21-year-old turned heads when he picked up the ball at the edge of the box, before taking it up on himself to find the net. Surrounded by United players, the player quickly danced past Casemiro, before dropping him on his knees as he fired his shot past Andre Onana.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the Portuguese midfielder put his side 1-0 within 10 minutes from kick-off. Even though pre-season friendlies only act as a ‘warm-up’ for the real season, United fans were reminded of how their club puts ‘unnecessary’ importance on pre-season games.
United’s next game is against defending Premier League champions Manchester City for a shot at glory in the Community Shield.
Liverpool thrash Manchester United in final pre-season friendly
Liverpool may be the only Premier League side yet to make a signing. However, that did not stop them from going all out against rivals Manchester United on Saturday night. Arne Slot and co. put an end to all the doubts amidst claims that the manager was a downgrade from former boss Jurgen Klopp. Even though it remains too soon to call, Slot thoroughly did a good job against United in his side’s 3-0 win.
After Fabio Carvalho’s brilliant opener, Curtis Jones proceeded to tap-in an inviting cross from Liverpool’s main man Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has shown a lot of promise as the club go into a new season with zero new players. United failed to capitalize on the very few chances they created throughout the match.
The game was eventually put to bed by Konstantinos Tsimikas, who had the easiest job in the world to tap the ball in from a rebound. To make things worse, United were forced to take off both Maxi Oyedele and James Scanlon due to injury. Latest signing Leny Yoro has already been sidelined due to a serious injury suffered against Arsenal.
