Manchester United ‘flop’ Antony is close to securing a January transfer move away from the club to La Liga giants Real Betis. The Spanish club has reportedly agreed on a six-month-long loan deal for the 24-year-old Brazilian forward.
Man Utd signed the 24-year-old forward from Ajax back in 2022 for a record €100 million. It made him the Eredivisie side’s biggest transfer ever. He also became Man Utd’s third most expensive player, behind Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. While he scored on his debut against Arsenal in a 3-1 win, the Brazilian has since then failed to live up to his massive price tag.
In his three seasons at Old Trafford, Antony has made 95 appearances but has only scored 12 times. This season, the 24-year-old scored just once, against Barnsley in the EFL Cup, despite having made 14 appearances. Antony has been tipped to depart United on a permanent deal for a while, after being left out of manager Ruben Amorim’s plans. He was previously linked with a move to Greek side Olympiakos.
Amid uncertainty, the former Sao Paulo star is now expected to make a temporary switch to Spain. Real Betis are closing in on a six-month loan deal for the winger until the end of the season. The deal is not expected to have a buyout option, meaning the Red Devils would have to cover part of Antony’s wages. He has a contract at United that runs until 2027, with an option to extend for a year.

Furthermore, a move to Spain would definitely allow the 24-year-old to regain his old form. Real Betis will also be hoping to utilize his services to make a comeback after having fallen to the 12th position on the La Liga table.
Manchester United’s search for a new striker intensifies amid poor run in the Premier League
The Red Devils are in search of a new striker to suit manager Ruben Amorim’s plans. It comes amid a poor run of performances for the club in the EPL. Manchester United might sign a new forward in the ongoing January transfer window with three attackers exiting the club.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho are expected to depart Man Utd, leaving space for a new striker. The club is on the hunt for a prolific goal-scorer in order to improve their offensive record. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Wolverhampton’s Matheus Cunha, and Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres have emerged as options.

However, the club faces a massive problem in the form of Financial Fair Play (FFP) penalties in order to revamp their squad. United will be hoping to strike a deal with Dortmund for Rashford and Napoli for Garnacho this month.
