Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona to sign Ousmane Dembele on a season long loan
Manchester United are now exploring the possibility to sign Ousmane Dembele, as Jadon Sancho deal seems highly impossible. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have formally opened talks with Barcelona to sign the 23 year old forward on a season long loan.
However United fans are disappointed with these turn of events. The Manchester United fans have been highly anticipating the signing of Jadon Sancho for months now. But Ed Woodward’s refusal to pay the £120 which Dortmund requested as the transfer fee for Sancho resulted in the breaking down of the deal.
Ousmane Dembele to arrive at Old Trafford
FC Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for a record breaking fee of £135 million. Dembele is certainly a talented forward but the injuries which he constantly suffers have ruined his career. In the 2018/19 season the Frenchman made 42 appearances for Barcelona and scored 14 goals. He also gave them 8 assists that season. But since then he has mostly been on the bench getting injured.
Hence United fans are concerned about the signing of Ousmane Dembele as he is a injury prone player who often sustains injuries. United however are also considering Douglas Costa, Ivan Perisic and Ismaila Sarr as alternatives to Sancho. The red devils are also in the pursuit of strikers Edinson Cavani and Luka Jovic.
Manchester United are also looking at Ismaila Sarr as an alternative
It is to be noted that Ousmane Dembele rejected a permanent move to Juventus and a loan spell at Liverpool in the month of June. However Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has stated that Dembele is an important asset to his new project. Speaking on the same in a press conference, Koeman said, “Dembélé? These decisions are made by the club and the player. In the past weeks you could already see that I am counting on him. In the last game Ansu started and Dembélé has to wait for his chance but I’m counting on him.”
United are also considering signing of Ismaila Sarr from Watford. Sarr was earlier linked with a Liverpool move before the Reds signed Diogo Jota instead. Now United are also looking at the 22 year old Senegal international as an alternative, whose club has been relegated to the second tier of EPL. We would get answers to all these questions in just few days as the transfer window will end this week.
