Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Manchester United are not willing to sign Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window. The report has emerged after some other reports stated that the Catalan club wants to sell the Dutch midfielder for a fee of just €60 million.
Barcelona needs to achieve a high-profile sale and increase their profit. They also need to clear their wage bill as their new signing, Dani Olmo, has still not been registered. Plettenberg reports that Manchester United did not have any discussion or are in any sort of negotiation with the Blaugrana regarding the transfer of De Jong.
Frenkie de Jong excels with his exceptional ball control, vision, and ability to dictate tempo. His versatility allows him to transition seamlessly between defense and attack, making him a midfield maestro.
Manchester United had earlier hoped to sign De Jong in the summer transfer window of last season
United were very hopeful as well as interested in signing De Jong in the previous summer transfer window. Ten Hag wanted to reunite with the midfielder after having a successful combination with him when both of them were at Ajax. However, De Jong did not want to leave Barcelona, and the deal was halted.

United have been quite busy in the current summer transfer window. They have already announced the signing of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee. There are just two weeks remaining until the end of the transfer window. Hence, reports stated that the Old Trafford club would like to make a move for De Jong, as he has been a long-term target for them.
De Jong is currently recovering from his injury, and with no transfer in sight, he would like to work hard and play successfully under the new manager, Hansi Flick. The club has not yet revealed when he will be back on the field. Barcelona will definitely want to re-negotiate his salary, as he is the highest-paid player in the club.
