Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam, in a recent interview, slammed Erik ten Hag and urged the Dutch manager to leave Old Trafford. Stam also questioned Ten Hag’s managerial approach and playing style.

Erik ten Hag‘s two seasons at Manchester United have been disappointing, finishing eighth in the EPL last season. It marked their worst-ever Premier League season, and they also failed to progress from their UCL group. Despite exit rumors, the club chose to retain Ten Hag and extended his contract for two more years. The club also backed the manager by investing heavily in the squad, spending over £150 million on new players.

Ex-Red Devils star and Kampen manager Jaap Stam, while speaking on Simon Jordan‘s podcast, criticized Ten Hag’s management style. The Dutchman expressed his belief that while Ten Hag has been given another season to improve, he needs to take responsibility for the team’s under performance. Moreover, the 52-year-old former player argued the manager should be honest about the team’s ‘rubbish’ displays and should step down now.

For Ten Hag, it's his third season at United, I think he needs to go. He needs to step up this season, there have been a lot of changes made at the club with the staff...curious how it's going to work out for them.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag will face significant pressure as United begin the EPL season against Fulham, especially after their recent FA Community Shield loss. The club has bolstered the squad with several new signings, including Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

In a recent podcast, Stam emphasized that the 24-year-old’s talent was evident at the Eredivisie side but hasn’t translated well at the Old Trafford, considering his high transfer fee. Additionally, he argued that the club needs to acquire better players, as Antony hasn’t shown enough consistency in terms of goals and assists.

I think Antony did well in Holland and showed some quality there, but when you go to a different league and go to United with a big price tag it's not the same.

Over his two seasons at the club, Antony has struggled to justify his hefty price tag. He scored just once in the Premier League last season, with a total of 11 goals in 82 matches.
