Ruben Amorim has been left struggling in troubled waters after Manchester United suffered their 12th defeat of the ongoing Premier League season to rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils lost 1-0 to 12th-placed Spurs away from home.

Having defeated Brentford two weeks ago to end their seven-match winless run, Spurs earned their first victory at home since November. Against Man Utd, James Maddison got the lone goal of the match in the 13th minute, turning in a rebound after Lucas Bergvall‘s shot was saved by Andre Onana. Moreover, it marked Maddison’s and Spurs’ keeper Guglielmo Vicario‘s return to action from injury.

While the hosts moved up to the 12th place on the EPL table, Man Utd now sits three places behind in the disappointing 15th position. The Red Devils now have just 29 points from 25 matches, a historic low, and are closer than ever to the relegation places. Moreover, Spurs became the only side to win three matches against United in a single season, in all competitions, since the 2012-13 season.

Pressure seems to be mounting upon United boss Ruben Amorim, who has lost eight out of the 12 EPL encounters since his appointment in November. Only bottom-placed Leicester City and Southampton have lost more games in this period. Amidst their worst league campaign, the club has lost 12 out of its 25 top-flight matches, their most defeats at this stage in the last 51 years.

Manchester United will be hoping to reverse their fortunes and avoid a repeat of their 1973-74 campaign, when they were relegated from the first division. Amorim and his players will be hoping to get a win against Everton, whom they face next.

Fans lashed out at manager Ruben Amorim, blaming him for the club’s dismal run this season. Some fans also urged the club to sack the Portuguese manager after just three months in charge. One fan angrily claimed that Amorim is the ‘worst’ thing that happened to the club, while a few others laughed at the club breaking historic records in their ongoing campaign.

Manchester United have failed to live up to expectations despite the club having spent massively over the last two transfer windows. Interestingly, some fans hilariously stated that former Red Devils’ boss Erik ten Hag might be laughing at the club’s situation.
