Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag from the managerial position. The Dutchman was unable to steer his side clear of persistent and embarrassing defeats as the club endured one of the worst starts to a Premier League season. With the 2-1 loss against West Ham United proving to be the last straw for the club, INEOS and the sporting department are now tasked with the responsibility of finding a suitable replacement.
Several names have been thrown in the air as replacements for the manager, with former England boss Gareth Southgate at the top. However, it is also understood that United are eyeing Manchester City target Ruben Amorim as well. The Sporting CP head coach is a two-time League champion with the club and has won other domestic titles.
United are reportedly prepared to pay the 39-year-old’s release clause. Former United man Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as the interim boss. Amorim has denied making a comment about his future and stated that he takes immense ‘pride’ in his position at the club.

Ruben Amorim’s managerial record : a perfect fit for United?
If Manchester United are to go through with their plan of picking up the young Sporting CP boss, things do look bright for the future. With a 100% record in the League this season, Sporting are flying in comparison to United, who’ve lost more games than they’ve won in just nine games. The club is also unbeaten in the Champions League and have won two of their three group stage games.
Besides his impressive League record with Sporting, Amorim has also won three Portuguese League Cups. What impresses United more is his adaptability and high-intensity system of football. The manager’s rapid ascent to the coaching arena resulted in him being scouted by clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City in recent times.
Back in 2018, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim completed a performance internship under José Mourinho at Man United.

Amorim has also been credited with Viktor Gyokeres‘ unbelievable form, with fans pointing to his system that suits the striker. Even though Xavi Hernandez has also been named as a potential candidate for the United job, fans believe that Amorim will be a better fit. With his emphasis on developing youth talent and increasing player potential, Amorim to United would be a match made in heaven.
