Manchester United are set to welcome their new manager Ruben Amorim following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. As the Red Devils navigate their current games under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Amorim has turned heads with a subtle dig at United fans. Set to be the seventh manager to take charge of the club since Sir Alex Ferguson, the Sporting CP head coach is fully aware of the challenges ahead.

Ruben Amorim will not join Manchester United until serving his notice period with his current side in Portugal. In response to the immense expectations surrounding his arrival, Amorim’s upcoming games with Sporting will be closely monitored by United fans. The biggest of them all is the Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday.

If the result is negative, the expectations about me will drop. If we win, they’ll think that the new Sir Alex Ferguson has arrived.

As things stand, Sporting still maintain a 100% record in the League and have as many points as Man City in the Champions League.

Bernardo Silva cheekily wishes the ‘worst’ for Ruben Amorim

Manchester City and Manchester United are eternal rivals. Even though the latter has managed to place themselves a level above the Red Devils in recent seasons, fans are hoping that the arrival of Ruben Amorim will help bridge the gap. With the Portuguese’s arrival imminent, City star Bernardo Silva offered his take on the same.

In terms of him going to Man United, I don’t wish him very well. He’ll be my rival.

Despite the rivalry, Silva stated that his fellow countryman deserved what he got. Being at ‘one of the best clubs in the world’ is only a befitting reward for what he did with Sporting last season.

City are in excellent form this season, although Pep Guardiola‘s side took a significant tumble in the Premier League. They lost two consecutive games for the first time in over a year after they fell 2-1 to Bournemouth last weekend. They are third in the UCL and second in the Premier League, with a two-point gap from leaders Liverpool.
