Manchester United and Newcastle United are reportedly in a race to sign 18-year-old wunderkind ahead of upcoming winter window.

Manchester United might not be able to secure their target, Tyler Dibling, who has been sensational for Southampton. Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider reports that Dibling does not want to move to Manchester United, and this would bring Newcastle United to the forefront. The Magpies are also interested in the player, and Diling wants to prioritize more game time rather than playing for a bigger club.

The 18-year-old Englishman will be wanted by many clubs when the 2024/25 season ends. Southampton are at the bottom of the Premier League table and will probably suffer relegation at the end of the season. Even if they don’t, Dibling would want to move to a new destination after the season ends. The winger is a great prospect for interested clubs and will be a player to watch out for in the future.

A number of Premier League clubs are already keeping tabs on the young winger. Dibling has also played for Chelsea earlier but did not enjoy his tenure at Stamford Bridge. Hence, he had moved to Southampton. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in him for a long time, but the Red Devils have made a genuine approach to the winger.

The 18-year-old is delaying his contract renewal, and hence, it is likely that he might leave next summer. However, Southampton won’t agree to sell him in January, given that his presence would give them an outside chance to stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation. Southampton are demanding £20-30 million to sell him in the summer.

Why Manchester United do not have a big chance to secure Tyler Dibling?

Dibling has made it clear that he prefers to play regularly rather than play for a big club. Amad Diallo has been sensational for Manchester United, and hence Dibling would not get the opportunity to play regularly if he moves to Old Trafford. Newcastle are looking to strengthen their wingers during the summer transfer window. Eddie Howe also has good experience in developing young players. Hence, Dibling might find a move to St. James Park more enticing.

Now, it remains to be seen if Manchester United can attract Dibling with more game time. However, it looks very likely that the Magpies will go on to beat the Red Devils and secure the signing of the 18-year-old.
