In the ongoing offseason, the San Diego Padres have suffered some big losses and are yet to make a major move. This has left one of their superstar Manny Machado a little bit “disappointed”.
A few days ago, Ha-Seong Kim agreed to join the Tampa Bay Rays on a 2-year $29 million deal from free agency. He had earlier declined the club option from the Padres earlier in the offseason.
This announcement of Kim came after the Padres lost out on Jurickson Profar and Tanner Scott. Both of this players played an important part for the team last season. However, they did not re-sign with them and instead joined the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers respectively.
The Padres also missed out on Japanese free agent star Roki Sasaki. At the time of his posting to the MLB, the NL West team were considered as heavy favorites to land him. Unfortunately, they fell short again as the Dodgers won the sweepstakes of him.
Speaking regarding this lack of offseason moves, Manny Machado nodded that “yeah” they were disappointed for not making any moves and losing some of the core guys of them.

A reason for the lack of offseason moves could be due to the legal-dispute regarding the ownership of the team. Sheel Seidler, wife of late team owner Peter Seidler, recently sued her in-laws for the control of the team.
Padres GM A.J. Preller hints at multiple player signings before start of 2025 season
With the 2025 Spring Training around the corner, the San Diego Padres are yet to land a mega star. Despite this lack of offseason moves, the team is expected to sign someone. The team’s GM A.J. Preller has hinted at multiple player signings before the start of the 2025 season.
Preller would speak to the media on Saturday during the Padres FanFest. In this, the 47-year-old executive claims to start the season as a “championship roster”. He even stated that the team are looking to add some batters and pitchers before the new campaign gets underway.
Preller says he expects the Padres to enter the season with “a championship roster.” He adds: “Gotta add a bat or two, gotta add an arm or two.” https://t.co/s5P2Pouqrc

This talks from Preller also comes at a time when there have been rumors of the team trying to trade away starting pitcher Dylan Cease. The player has shrugged off this chatter and claimed that he “loves” San Diego.
It now remains to be seen what moves the Padres will eventually make in the upcoming days. Last season, they finished with a 93-69 record. After winning the Wild Card series, they took on their rivals, Los Angeles Dodgers in the division series. Despite being 2-1 up after three games, they lost the best-of-five game series by 3-2.
