Manny Pacquiao had recently decided to lace up his boxing world after running for office in the Philippines. The legendary boxer initially announced his retirement and hasn’t fought since 2021. However, Pacquiao recently announced that he intends to fight the 27-year-old Conor Benn, and they even had a face-off in Saudi Arabia.

Subsequently, they were quite close to securing the fight, as both fighters showed an interest in making it happen. They even apparently came close to securing a deal after undergoing negotiations. This sadly came to an end because of Benn’s failed drug test. Boxing journalist, Michael Benson reported that Pacquiao’s promoter revealed that the fight wouldn’t go forward because of BBBofC and UKAD’s decisions.

Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions rep, Sean Gibbons, has revealed that the Conor Benn fight was close to done before the BBBofC and UKAD won their appeal.

The BBBofC and UKAD had stated that Benn would not be sanctioned to fight until the investigation was over. In response, Benn appealed to refute this decision, but the BBBofC and UKAD appealed yet again. This caused Benn’s boxing career to be put on hold due to his drug use allegations.

Now that the fight with Benn won’t be moving forward, Pacquaio plans on retiring for good in the next nine months. However, he still wants to make a big fight happen. In addition, Pacquaio wants to again run for office in his country and wants to continue his political career.

Manny Pacquaio might fight Conor McGregor

Benn is not the only fighter that the legendary boxer has shown an interest in fighting since he was also supposed to fight Conor McGregor. The two had even agreed to make a fight happen and entered into a two-fight deal. However, Pacquaio was not able to honor their deal, which caused McGregor to sue him for $8 million.

Subsequently, even after all of this, they still seem interested in making the fight happen. Furthermore, both of them were also spotted in Saudi Arabia during the Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou fight. Hence, if McGregor wants to fight Manny Pacquaio, he will have to do it in the next nine months before he retires for good.

Currently, Conor McGregor is scheduled to face Michael Chandler in June. The Notorious hasn’t fought since 2021. This implies that he will be in shape again and may take on Pacquaio. If their fight offers a lucrative deal for both parties, then it may become a reality. This is because the legendary boxer is actively looking for an opponent.
