Ravichandran Ashwin stunned the world after announcing his retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia after the end of the third Test in Brisbane. No one saw it coming, as he made it known through a press conference after the match. Ashwin has been a legend in Test cricket for India as an all-rounder.
The off-spinner played his last game in the second Test of the series with the pink ball at the Adelaide Oval. There were many discussions in the cricket fraternity after the sudden decision from Ashwin in the middle of an away series in Australia. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary implied that Ashwin was insulted by the Gautam Gambhir-led team management.
Tiwary feels that the inclusion of young spinners like Washington Sundar and Tanush Kotian in the home Test series against New Zealand was an insult to a legend like Ashwin. The former Bengal cricketer feels that there was no need to bring them and bowl them more overs when the team had a quality off-spinner of the calibre of Ashwin.
Manoj Tiwary feels that Ravichandran Ashwin will reveal the main reason behind his retirement one day
Tiwary also added that he feels Ashwin felt humiliated after giving so many match-winning performances for the national team over the years. He stated that the former Indian off-spinner has not revealed anything as he is a nice guy, but one day he will certainly reveal the main reason behind his sudden retirement from international cricket in the middle of a series.
Ashwin was overlooked in the first match of the BGT 2024/25 in Perth, and then he was yet again replaced in the third match of the series in Brisbane. Ashwin was not at his best in the three-match home series against New Zealand, where India were whitewashed with a margin of 3-0.
