The Road Safety World Series came to an end today with the Indian Legends coming up trumps against the Sri Lankan legends at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The win was fashioned by the batsmen who performed exceptionally well after being put in to bat on the night of the final. Although the Sri Lankans put up a fight, they fell short by 14 runs.

It was half-centuries by Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh that helped India get to their score of 181/4 in the first innings after failures for Virender Sehwag and Subramaniam Badrinath. Sachin Tendulkar contributed with a 30 as well. With the ball, once again it was Yusuf Pathan along with his brother Irfan Pathan who picked up two wickets apiece to put India in a strong position that they capitalized on.

In the 17th over of Sri Lanka’s innings bowled by Manpreet Gony, Chinthaka Jayasinghe was the batsman and on a free-hit delivery, he came down the pitch to hit a ball straight back to the bowler. Gony picked it up one-handed and returned a throw full throttle which hit the batsman on his left hand. Jayasinghe tried to stop the ball with his hand but it was travelling at full speed that was difficult.

The batsman dropped to the floor wreathing in pain. Gony apologized immediately while Sachin Tendulkar came running in to heck on the batsman as did the physios.
