On Sunday, the Vegas Golden Knights took on the Minnesota Wild in the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. During the game, Marc-Andre Fleury received a standing ovation from the Golden Knights fans which left him emotional.
After spending more than a decade with the Pittsburgh Penguins and winning three Stanley Cups, Fleury was picked by the Golden Knights during the 2017 NHL Expansion draft. At that time, the Golden Knights were just founded.
In the first season with them, Fleury was able to play a huge part in the team’s run to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Unfortunately, they fall short in the end as they lost in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals against Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals.
Fleury went on to spend three more years with the Golden Knights before joining the Chicago Blackhawks. Last year in April, the veteran goaltender extended his stay with the Wild and claimed he would retire at the end of the 2024-25 season.
During the game on Sunday, the Golden Knights would pay their tribute to Fleury through a video. In the middle of the first period. “Flower” would take it all in slowly and was visibly left emotional as fans stood up, cheered and clapped for him.

Fans would also chant the name of Fleury in the closing stages of the game. He is currently the second winningest goaltender in the history of NHL with 570 wins, 9 of which have come this season.
Marc-Andre Fleury recalls hilarious encounter with fan over retirement
One thing that has made Marc-Andre Fleury a standout figure in the NHL is his cheerful personality. The veteran goaltender has often had great interactions with fans and his teammates, with whom he has played several pranks. On Saturday, he recalled a hilarious encounter with a fan during the game against the San Jose Sharks.
The Wild were able to come out as 3-1 winners in that game with Fleury being one of the top performers. After the game, the 40-year claimed that a Sharks fan kept yelling that he should retire from the NHL. That somehow motivated him to do better.
Marc-Andre Fleury; "One (Sharks fan) kept yelling at me, I'm too old, I have to retire, So I wanted to show him we could win and do well. So I'm happy."

.It was actually funny."
In the game against the Sharks, Fleury faced 37 shots on target. He went to make 36 saves and conceded just once in the second period. The Wild though were unable to win again on Sunday against the Golden Knights. They are currently 27-13-4 for the season and are looking to make a playoff push.
