As he inches closer to breaking the 894-goals scored record of Gretzky, Marc-Andre Fleury made a hilarious comment regarding him. He expressed that if Ovechkin broke the record against him, then he would have been “pissed“.

I’d be pissed in the moment. I’d still be pissed a few days later because then you’ll be on TV for the next f****** many years.

Marc-Andre Fleury said as per Jonny Lazarus

The 40-year-old goaltender ranks 2nd in all time wins list with 573 regular-season wins. Apart from that, the Canadian international has also achieved Stanley Cup success on three occasions with the Penguins (2009, 2016 and 2017). He and Ovechkin also faced off in the 2018 Stanley Cup finals. On that occasion, it was the Russian who came out on top.

Wayne Gretzky expected to be at Capitals’ next home game as Alex Ovechkin gets closer to goal-scoring record

The Capitals will welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to the Capital One Arena on Friday. In this game, Ovechkin could tie the record with 2 goals and surpass it with a hat trick. Given the form of the Blackhawks, who have already been eliminated from the playoffs, this game could be the one where history is made.

Ahead of this game, an interesting stat has shown up. Gretzky scored 894 goals in 1,487 regular season games. Meanwhile, Ovechkin has scored 892 goals in 1,485 regular season games. This means that he is 2 goals away from tying the record of Gretzky and 2 games away from the amount of games it took the former Edmonton Oilers captain to reach this figure.

The Capitals will enter the game looking to get back to winning ways though. Following the 5-1 loss on Wednesday, the team has lost 4 out of their last 5 games.
