UFC 255: ‘Fight of the Night Louis Cosce vs Sasha’ and ‘Joaquin Buckley and Antonina Shevchenko performance of the night’

UFC 255 was jammed packed with great fights. We had not 1 but to fights with title implications and it was the only card that has had 2 siblings competing together. Spoiler alert: both of them emerged victorious.

“Sasha Palatnikov” vs. “Louis Cosce” was an absolute pleasure to watch. Sasha, who is the first fighter to represent Hong-Kong in the UFC history, won via TKO at 2:27 of Round 3. Sasha, coming into this bout was the underdog (+422), only had a record of 1 victory in the octagon and 6-2 in his MMA. He surprised everyone with his highlight-reel finish. Taking nothing away from the effort of Cosce who had a big first round but seemed to gas out afterwards.

Coming to the Performances of the Night, we have “Joaquin Buckley” with another fantastic finish, proving that he was not a one-hit-wonder. Buckley landed a devasting right hand that knocked out “Jordan Wright” in the second round. Herb Dean stepped in immediately to make sure Wright did not endure any further damage but it seemed as if Buckley knew he had knocked him out and stopped right after landing the blow. Class act by the winner.

The second Performance of the Night bonus goes to “Antonina Shevchenko”. If the last name rings a bell, yeah, Antonina is the elder sister of the flyweight Champion, Valentina Shevchenko. Both sisters won tonight. Antonina finished her opponent “Ariane Lipski” with vicious ground-and-pound in the 2nd round.

Deiveson Figueiredo

“Deiveson Figueiredo” defended his title against “Alex Perez”, who was the replacement for “Cody Garbrandt”, beating him in the first round via submission. The champ, yet again, dominated the challenger just like in his previous bouts. The future of the flyweight division seems bright again with such an exciting champion.

“Valentina Shevchenko” also defended her title against “Jennifer Maia” who expected everyone with how well she fought against the champ in the starting rounds. Eventually, the Bullet got the unanimous victory.

Now, the question arises who is next in light to fight the flyweight champs? Buckley called out “James Krause“, indirectly, with that said, would ask him to fight again soon be pushing him? What do you guys think? What were your thoughts about UFC 255?
