The Big Three—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic—are among the greatest players of their generation. However, the debate over who is the greatest has persisted for over a decade.

Despite Federer retiring in 2022, the Swiss Maestro still remains in the discussion of who is the greatest player of all time in the sport. The 42-year-old was dubbed the ‘Grass King’ because he won Wimbledon eight times, including five consecutive times in his 20+ years career. He won over 100 tour-level titles, including 20 Grand Slam titles.

Nadal and Djokovic are still battling it on the court despite aged 38 and 37, respectively. Nadal has won 22 Grand Slam titles, 14 of them coming at the French Open. On the other hand, Djokovic has won 24 major titles, two more than any other men’s player. At the 2024 Wimbledon, he was supposed to claim his 25th Grand Slam but lost the title to youngster Carlos Alcaraz.

The three men elevated tennis and attracted fans from all over the world to the game. For Swiss legend Marc Rosset, saying one of them is better than the others depends on which is important to a lover of the game.

It depends on what is most important to you. If it is the number of Grand Slams, Nadal and Djokovic are the best. If it is the player with the most influence on the sport, for me it is Roger. The people who love Federer say it is Federer, the people who are crazy about Novak say it is Novak. The people who like Nadal say he won everything.

Federer has been engaged in media activities since the release of his documentary ‘Twelve Final Days: Roger Federer’. Additionally, the 42-year-old has also been on several vacations with his family this year.

Nadal, on his part, admitted he was excited to be in a final after a long injury recovery last year.

It is always a good feeling to get back into a final. I'm still in this process of recovering a lot of things that I lost because I had an important hip surgery almost a year ago. Things are not going that easy, but I am fighting.
Rafael Nadal said via BBC.

Nadal was set to play in the semifinals of Bastad doubles alongside Casper Ruud before withdrawing from the match, as he plans to conserve his energy for the singles final.
