Marcus Morris inadvertently reveals LeBron James knew of Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis swap

LeBron James lost Anthony Davis and gained Luka Doncic

When the Los Angeles Lakers traded away Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic, the discourse surrounding that swap had fans asking if LeBron James and other power brokers had anything to do with it. Considering how the 40-year-old has influenced decisions before, the reality was a bit disturbing.

Rumors started to float that James had given Rob Pelinka his blessings. That was after CBS Sports claimed that James was not happy with how Davis was playing. But The King, shot that rumor down and called out CBS Sports for their baseless theories.

His agent, Rich Paul, who also happens to be Anthony Davis’ agent, revealed that this trade was part of that .1% of moves he was not aware of as it went down. Along with him, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss revealed she too did not know about it until the last moment.

The part about it I don’t think a lot of people see is that ‘Kieff and Luka have a really good relationship. They wanted Luka to feel better going to a new place where you have somebody who has been a teammate. Also ‘Kieff played there, so the Lakers really wanted him to come. ‘Bron asked for him to come.

Marcus Morris said

This was Marcus Morris, twin brother of Markieff Morris, who was speaking on Kevin O’Connor’s podcast on Yahoo Sports. Going by the former Cleveland Cavaliers star’s versions, it brings some light into it with regards LeBron James’ role in the trade.

The logic of Markieff Morris’ role in Luka Doncic trade

When the trade went down, the two brothers were talking to each other via phone. As per Marcus Morris, his twin brother Markieff was looking to retire. He was not getting any game time and was merely a veteran placed on the team to look after the young players.

Marcus Morris initially believed whatever trade happened, will push Markieff Morris towards retirement. He had just bought a house in Dallas and was looking to settle down once he retired. Now before he could tell his brother where he was going, Marcus Morris believed it would upset the situation.

But once Markieff Morris revealed that he was going along with Luka Doncic and Maxi Kleber to the Los Angeles Lakers, it started to make sense. The former player believes LeBron James had asked for the veteran to be a part of this trade.

They were teammates on the 2020 Bubble championship team. Along with that, he was good friends with the Slovenian superstar. To help Doncic acclimatize faster, the Lakers brought in people he was familiar with.

Anthony Davis’ thoughts on LeBron James and Lakers owner not knowing about trade

After the trade, information trickled in that GM’s Rob Pelinka and Nico Harrison had been talking about this trade for a few weeks. That is why Dallas Mavericks fans went on a tirade asking for their GM to be fired. But then, it also was revealed that Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont gave the go-ahead.

His attempts to smear Luka Doncic has added to the notion that he was all-in on this deal right from the start. However, his counterpart on the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss claimed she did not know about it until the last moment.

But Anthony Davis has slammed that notion. He believes everyone who had to know, knew about the trade. Only the players involved knew at the last moment. Now with this new revelation from Marcus Morris, one can safely assume that Davis understands his close friend also knew about it.

Those at the top already made the decision to swap Doncic and Davis. They might have just informed LeBron James. At the same time, they asked if there were any additional player’s he felt could help the team. These theories aside, no one will know the true story on how and why that trade happened.
