Marcus Rashford racially abused online after United’s draw against Arsenal
Marcus Rashford claimed he was racially abused online following United’s 0-0 draw against Arsenal. He took to his Twitter account to bring up the matter.
Rashford played for 80 minutes in the match against Arsenal and was taken off for Greenwood. The forward did not have a perfect game as he missed a few chances to score. However, there can be no reason big enough to racially abuse a person.
Racism has no place in football
Rashford decided not to share screenshots of the abuses hurled at him as it would be irresponsible.
“Humanity and social media at its worst. Yes I’m a Black man and I live every day proud that I am. No one, or no one comment, is going to make me feel any different,” Rashford wrote on Twitter late on Saturday.
“So sorry if you were looking for a strong reaction, you’re just simply not going to get it here.
“I’m not sharing screenshots. It would be irresponsible to do so… there’s nothing original in them. I have beautiful children of all colours following me and they don’t need to read it. Beautiful colours that should only be celebrated.”
Earlier in the week, Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Tuanzebe were the recipients of such abuses online. Chelsea’s Reece James and West Bromwich’s Romaine Sawyers were also targeted online for similar reasons.
The Football Association had released a statement following the increasing number of racial abuses reported in the Premier League. The FA condemned such behavior and vowed to remove such aspects in the game with assistance from the government.
Racism has no place in this beautiful game of football. People often think that they would get away with everything they post online. The government along with the FA should bring in stricter rules and punishment for these offenders.
