Marcus Spears asserts Chiefs ‘marginal’ wins won’t stand in the way of another Super Bowl
The Chiefs' narrow wins are concerning, but Marcus Spears believes they'll keep winning—luck or skill—unless a team can completely dominate Patrick Mahomes and company.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers and clinched the AFC West title in the process. It was the Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert’s sixth straight defeat against the reigning Super Bowl champions, but it took a doinked field goal in the final moments to settle the game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night.
This wasn’t an isolated affair by a long shot. Even though Andy Reid’s team has lost just once this year, several of the Chiefs’ victories have been around the margin of one score. That loss was handed to them by the Buffalo Bills at Orchard Park a few weeks ago.
Since then, the Chiefs have played the Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders, both of which ended in a one-score win. Even before the Bills fixture, they posted a similar outcome against the Denver Broncos and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In Monday’s episode of ESPN’s NFL Live, the panel of Ryan Clark, Dan Orlovsky, Marcus Spears, and Mina Kimes discussed the Chiefs concerning the trend of not putting teams away. It may come back to haunt them eventually, but Spears argued that unless any team can blow the Chiefs out, they will continue to win and even secure their third straight Super Bowl.
They are going to win games that are played on the margins. Whether you call it luck because it takes some of it to win a championship or whether you call it unstoppable, it takes some of that. I don’t go to the four-quarter sequence; I go to the two minutes before the half when you start talking about execution and gotta-have-it situations.

Patrick Mahomes summed up the Chiefs’ narrow wins this season
After recording their latest victory, the Chiefs are currently 12-1 and celebrated being the divisional stalwarts 9 years in a row. However, they aren’t overlooking the narrow wins, but at the end of the day, a win is a win.

It’s awesome that we’re finding ways to get wins [and] at the end of the day, that’s what you’re going for, but our goal is to get to that Super Bowl. So, we’re going to try to continue to get better and better so that we’re playing our best football, hopefully by the end of the year.

There are still four games remaining until the regular season ends. After wrapping up fixtures against the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans, Mahomes Co. has to face the leaders of the AFC North, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and divisional rivals the Denver Broncos.
