After another humiliating loss at home, all eyes were on the rumored trades Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was working on ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
At the time, many felt it might be one or two trades at most. Even then, former quarterback Troy Aikman believed that, since there was a slim chance the Cowboys would get a transcendent player, any addition would not make a significant difference.
Lo and behold, Jones had a couple of surprises up his sleeve. The first trade that was announced was when he received Logan Wilson in exchange for a 7th-round pick.
Many heralded the move, as it was both inexpensive and crucial to help the other young Cowboys linebackers develop. However, Jerry Jones was not done.
When Marcus Spears was live on SportsCenter, Dan Graziano broke the news that the New York Jets traded star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Cowboys in exchange for their 2026 2nd-round pick, a 2027 1st-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
Hearing this, the former Cowboys D-lineman held out a wide grin. When Marcus Spears asked to expand on his reaction, the ESPN analyst said:
He said it and he did it. Listen, I think this is huge for the Dallas Cowboys… Kudos to Jerry.

The 42-year-old went on to detail how Williams is next in Jerry Jones’ vision for their defense. Spears believes the owner-cum-GM is delivering what he had promised, and this will set the franchise up well for the future.
Quinnen Williams could give Jerry Jones a headache next offseason
Quinnen Williams is a two-time All-Pro defensive tackle who can stuff runners and also rush the quarterback. Since he used to primarily play in the middle of the New York Jets’ defensive line, the 27-year-old might have to adjust to the Cowboys’ scheme.

In fact, the Dallas-based franchise might have to alter its alignment as it now has three stud D-tackles. Jerry Jones gave Osa Odighizuwa a big payday this past offseason, which means all three should be starting.
He and Williams can balance run and pass rush duties, while Kenny Clark focuses on what he does best, which is to stop the run. However, all of this comes at a price.
Their collective salary cap will not be a problem this season. Next season, it is a different story, when Williams, Clark, and Odighizuwa will be earning $20 million each.
Jerry Jones did save a lot of money by not signing Micah Parsons to a behemoth contract, which should help them. However, it still might be a cause of worry for the owner-cum-GM next offseason.
Skip Bayless lauds Jerry Jones for making him a Cowboys fan again
The Dallas Cowboys are currently 3-5-1 and do not look like a team that can make it to the playoffs. However, this trade of Quinnen Williams has led Jerry Jones to win back a longtime fan.
Way to go, Jerry Jones. Congratulations. You got me again. You lured me back. Instead of jumping off the bandwagon, I’m driving it again.

He did admit that the Cowboys still have to address their biggest area of concern, which is the secondary. But believes Jones has hit this one out of the park.
