New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman had some strong message for the team ahead of the Spring Training. After missing two days of the camp the veteran pitcher noted that he’ll only accept a role in the starting lineup and won’t sit out in the bullpen.
His comments made waves on social media as many questioned his discipline in showing up in practice first. He boldly stated, “I’m a starter. I won’t pitch out of the bullpen.”
Furthermore, trade rumors about Stroman started circling following the NY Yankees’ initial intention to trade the 33-year-old during the MLB offseason. He is currently at the last of the team’s lineup and may chime in if there’s any player injury.
That’s vintage Stro. He’s a competitor. And I agree with him, he is a starter. Let’s just see how everything plays out.

However, Marcus Stroman has made his stance clear regarding the situation. He won’t accept anything less than a starter position. Aaron Boone commented that they’ll have to wait and see if Stroman gets into the starting rotation for the regular season games following Spring Training camp.
Brian Cashman on the other hand has faith in Stroman and took his comments positively. He said that he trusts the veteran pitcher as he has seen some solid games from him in the last few years. As for the rest of the decision, fans will have to wait and see.
Marcus Stroman states reason behind missing two days of Spring Training camp
2024 wasn’t for Marcus Stroman as he not only recorded one of his worst seasons but also lost his home in the fires in January in Malibu. Before reporting to the Spring Training he was staying in Tampa.

Stroman said he had spoken to Aaron Boone about his absence and there were no hard feelings. He felt like Valentine’s Day was the perfect day to arrive for the camp as “Everyone’s happy on this day.”
My relationship with the guys in the clubhouse hasn’t changed. I feel great to be back and I’m ready to roll. I know I can compete at any level, with any team. If I’m here, if I’m not here, my body’s ready to roll.

"Well first of all, Happy Valentine's Day. It's February 14th. You're getting way ahead of this thing. We're building him up to be a starting pitcher. As we go when things come up, we'll address them" pic.twitter.com/0Jg8FmYJtB
Last season, he recorded a 4.31 ERA in 30 games with 29 starts and one relief appearance. However, despite posting one of the worst records, Stroman is confident to compete with any team for the 2025 season. The rest will depend on Spring Training camp performance to decide on his starting position or bullpen for the regular season games.
