Mardy Fish once felt his Olympic silver in singles was better than gold in mixed doubles

Mardy Fish reached the 2004 Olympic final in Athens but lost the match to Chile’s Nicolas Massu in five sets. During a podcast, he recalled a conversation with former Belarusian tennis player Max Mirnyi who won the gold in mixed doubles at the 2012 London Games. Fish felt his silver in singles was worth more than the gold in mixed doubles but changed his views after his conversation with Mirnyi.

I was talking to Max Mirnyi. He got the gold (in mixed doubles), and I said, my silver is better than your gold. He looks at me dead in the eye and goes, 'In 20 years, no one's going to give a f*ck. What is this? It's a gold medal,'. And I was like, 'F*ck, you're right,'. It is 20 years now, and I think I'd rather have the gold.
Mardy Fish said on the Nothing Major Podcast

Fish never was able to reach the semifinals in singles Grand Slam events but reached multiple quarterfinals. In doubles, his best performance came at the 2009 Wimbledon when he reached the semifinals.
