Maria Kanellis, a popular wrestler known for her work in WWE and Ring of Honor, has been suffering from some health issues for quite a while now. Earlier in 2024, a mass was discovered on her adrenal gland, which was suspected to be a sign of cancer. Thankfully, the 2009 WWE Diva of the Year recently had some positive news to share with her fans.

In a video uploaded to her X account, Maria Kanellis revealed that she had finally gotten her pathology results back. The tumor she had discovered in her body earlier was not cancerous, and she was now officially cancer-free. She was grateful for being able to spend the holiday season with her family without having to worry about a potentially fatal disease.

As suspected earlier, the mass turned out to be a rare tumor called pheochromocytoma. She emphasized its rareness and said that only 3-8 people out of a million are ever infected by it. Suffering from this was a highly unpleasant affair, as it affected her mood, metabolism, blood pressure, heart rate, and more.

The former AEW star said that she was lucky to have found the tumor as early as she did. A slight delay in beginning treatment could make things much worse for her, and the recovery could have been much tougher. Regardless of everything that had happened, she was hopeful about the future and looking forward to it.

What is the update on Maria Kanellis returning to wrestling and her status with AEW?

Maria Kanellis was released from WWE in 2020 as part of the COVID layoffs. She eventually debuted in AEW in 2022 alongside the Kingdom, which comprised Matt Taven and her husband, Mike Bennett. She eventually moved over to the company’s sister promotion, Ring of Honor, and was more recently working with Griff Garrison and Cole Karter.

Earlier this year, Kanellis revealed that her contract with AEW would expire at the end of October 2024. She had still not heard back from the company about an extension. Thus, she was expecting to be let go soon. Afterward, Maria would start taking bookings from other promotions about six weeks after her surgery.

The 42-year-old’s future in professional wrestling remains highly uncertain. AEW may add time to her contract due to her spending time on the shelf. Furthermore, Kanellis has stated that she is still open to returning to WWE.
