“We saw Michael Jordan right?” Mark Cuban gives LeBron James ‘billionaire to billionaire’ advice before Las Vegas dream
Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban gave his thoughts on LeBron James following Michael Jordan in owning an NBA team.
Mark Cuban and LeBron James
LeBron James is one of the most highly acclaimed players in NBA history and stands beside greats like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Larry Bird, to name a few. Notably, James is very ambitious on and off the court. He has had a long-standing dream of owning the Las Vegas NBA franchise, which would see him follow in Jordan’s footsteps and become only the second NBA player to own a franchise.
However, former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban does not believe that is a good idea. In a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, James has been cautioned by Cuban that it is far harder to experience success as an owner than it is as a player.
Additionally, he asserted that if the four-time MVP purchased the Las Vegas team, he would need to drastically change his perspective, citing Jordan’s time as the Charlotte Hornets’ owner.
In Cuban’s opinion, superstars like James or Jordan are not the best general managers due to their greater comprehension of team dynamics. The Bulls legend’s terrible time with the Hornets lends belief to his view. Jordan did not endure much success with the Hornets and ended up selling the franchise. Hence, James should take note of Cuban’s statements if he were to own an NBA team in the future.
LeBron James looks ‘set’ to own Las Vegas NBA franchise
With its fan base growing daily, the NBA hopes to add at least one more franchise to its list. Las Vegas has been the most noticeable city whose name keeps coming up in this discussion. Notably, NBA legend LeBron James and partners have their eyes set on owning the Las Vegas franchise.
There have been various reports regarding James’ interest in investing in the franchise. The LA Lakers superstar is supported in this endeavor by SpringHill Company and the Fenway Sports Group.
However, any deal won’t be easy as James and his partners will have a lot of competition for the ownership of the Las Vegas NBA franchise. It will be intriguing to watch how this situation pans out in the coming years.
