Mark Cuban is trying to mend bond with Mavericks fans in aftermath of Luka Doncic trade
The Dallas Mavericks are in absolute shambles right now. Not only did the team make one of the most questionable trades in NBA history by giving away Luka Doncic, but they have subsequently alienated their entire fanbase. In the midst of the ongoing war between fans and ownership, former Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban is trying to ensure that more bridges aren’t burnt with Mavericks fans.
The saga started during the Mavericks’ recent home game against the Sacramento Kings, which saw the wrath of the Mavs fanbase against their owners for trading away a young star like Doncic. Fans were subsequently thrown out of the game by security for their protests, reportedly at the behest of the team’s management. On Wednesday, Mark Cuban made amends by offering an ejected fan courtside tickets to the American Airlines Center for the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Mavs.

Mavericks fans are some of the most loyal in the NBA, having stuck through years of hardship with a single superstar en route to their first-ever championship in 2011. Fans were ready to stick through the same struggles once again with their beloved franchise star, Luka Doncic, before his untimely departure from the team.
This prompted an all-out war by fans against the team’s current ownership group, led by Patrick Dumont and Miriam Adelson, and GM Nico Harrison. Against the Kings, these emotions were on full display following protests outside the arena for the current management to sell the team. Mark Cuban, who was formerly a majority owner of the Mavericks, has himself been highly critical of the current ownership’s decision to trade Luka Doncic.
Mark Cuban reveals reason behind fan ejection on Monday
The fans ejected during Monday’s game at the AAC were Garrett Bussey and his friend Chris Taylor. Both fans made the news after being ejected by security from the game after leading chants of ‘Fire Nico‘ and booing the team’s management, which led them to a heated argument with Mark Cuban. Leading up to Wednesday’s game at the AAC, Cuban addressed the situation which had transpired.
Fans were booing during crunch time while we had the ball and while we were shooting [free throws]. I wanted to see why. So I looked where they were looking to see why they were booing. When the guy (it was just one) saw me, he started screaming at me. I had no idea what he said, but he was obviously mad.

The Mavericks organization, too, spoke on the reason for the ejection of the fans and claimed that fans had been removed for violating the NBA’s Code of Conduct for profanity-laced clothing and also ‘appearing intoxicated, disruptive and uncooperative.’ However, Cuban reached out to the fan after the game to clarify the situation.
After speaking to Bussey and Taylor after the game, Mark Cuban made sure to make amends with the fans instead of burning more bridges with an outraged fanbase, and the result was tickets to Wednesday’s victory over the Warriors.
