Former MLB player Mark DeRosa took a shot at Juan Soto’s $765 million deal right after his announcement on Sunday. He talked about how the Yankees down the line will be happy not to get $760 million tied up for the next 16 years on a player.

While it was a hard pill to swallow, the Yankees have now moved past their grieving stage. Once the setback happened, they immediately started gathering players into their fold. DeRosa believes the team can use the $765 million in a more positive way on different players to solidify the lineup.

Rather than penning one player on a massive deal, it’s best for the team’s lineup to get a couple of players for different positions in place. Since Juan Soto’s loss, the NY Yankees have added pitchers Max Fried and Devin Williams. They traded Nestor Cortes and are on the move to add a couple more players for the 2025 run.

Mark DeRosa exclaimed while Soto was indeed a generational talent, the Yankees also had one in their lineup – captain Aaron Judge. Not only him, but the team overall has a good lineup of players and with addition of few key pieces they’ll be able to fill up Soto’s spot.

Bottom line is, and I do believe this in my heart, and this is no knock on one Soto, he is not Aaron Judge. He is not the best player on their team.

DeRosa further added that Juan Soto donning the Mets uniform is “a blessing in disguise” for the Yankees. It’s not only DeRosa but MLB insider Jeff Passan echoed the same sentiment.

He outright called out Soto’s deal as “an exceptional overpay” saying how his age mattered in the signing. He feels being a young player with promising years ahead hypes up contract value.

Broadcaster Michael Kay blasts Juan Soto’s “piggish” desire for suite

Broadcaster Michael Kay did not hold back on Juan Soto’s move from the Bronx to Queens. He blasted the outfielder for accepting a 15-year $765 million contract vs. Yankees 16-year $760 million deal.

Juan Soto exclaimed that the two teams’ offers were attractive during free agency, but what might have tipped the scales in Met’s favor is the free luxury suite. The Mets offered a free luxury suite at Citi Field for his family and friends, and also security for their safety.

He liked how the Mets were welcoming in player families compared to the Yankees who said no suite was in the contract. Michael Kay believes if a player is getting $760 million paid then they can afford their own suite.

When you’re getting a contract worth $765 million, and I’m not going to use this word lightly, to ask for a suite, borders on piggish.

Michael Kay as per Eric Italiano of Brobible.com.

The pinstripes never made such compromises with current players like Aaron Judge or with stars like Derek Jeter and others. Kay feels like asking for such luxuries shows his “audacious” personality.

Likewise, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo also blasted Soto, questioning him on his choice for the Mets. He said that it would have made sense if the Yankees and Mets offers were far too off, but they were close in comparison. He did not get why Soto chose the Mets given the Yankees’ legacy. Nevertheless, the deal is done, and the Yankees are moving forward with their rebuilding strategy in free agency.
