There was a time in WWE, under Vince McMahon‘s influence, when their superstars were actively pursuing AEW. Every other month or so, a major name would pop up in Tony Khan‘s promotion, seeking better opportunities. Walking on similar lines, former World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry joined WWE’s rival promotion in 2021. But before leaving, Henry got into Vince’s face.
In the latest episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, Henry revealed his words to McMahon. The 53-year-old outright told Vince McMahon that he’d be joining All Elite Wrestling to trump WWE in the ratings. For those wondering, their tete-a-tete was rather amicable, per Mark Henry. He wrapped up his time in WWE on good terms, and that was it.
The World’s Strongest Man arrived in AEW as a talent scout. He didn’t wrestle a single match. And following a couple of years of working in close circles with Tony Khan, the former US Olympian departed from the Jacksonville-based promotion as well. He chose not to resign with them. Recently, Henry spilled the beans on what he wanted out of WWE if he stayed there.
I told Vince, I said, ‘Hey, man, I’m gonna over there and try to make that place better, and kick your a** in the ratings.’ (laughs) And Vince is like, ‘I know you are.’Mark Henry via the Busted Open Radio podcast
In an interview with Forbes, the Sexual Chocolate revealed that he asked Vinnie Mac to hire him in some sort of non-wrestling capacity. However, the 78-year-old business tycoon denied Mark’s request, citing that there had already been a queue of people applying for the post he wanted. And eventually, The Silverback dropped out of WWE.
Vince McMahon forced Jinder Mahal to cut a racist promo in 2017
There have been a ton of WWE alums in the past who have opened up about their forgettable experiences with Vince McMahon. The most recent example is Jinder Mahal. He recently discussed the racist promo he cut on Shinsuke Nakamura while they were feuding for the WWE title in 2017.
It was, of course, Vince’s idea to approve of such a highly contentious segment, as he believed it was merely entertainment. As confirmed by Mahal during his conversation with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, he was reluctant to go ahead with it. However, McMahon’s call was final.
After everything was said and done, the promo wasn’t received well at all by the fans. Jinder was marred by a lot of backlash on social media. As a result, one of WWE’s social media managers came up to The Modern Day Maharaja and asked him to issue a public statement, as ordered by the then-WWE Chairman.
